Yerger Lurate, CPA

  I am a lifelong resident of the Jackson metro area and am a multi-generational Jacksonian.  My first job was at 12 years old delivering weekly circulars, and I continued to work various jobs from that point through my college years.  I look forward to living and working in the metro area for the remainder of my career. 

     I graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy Degree from the University of Mississippi.  My professional career began in public accounting working as an auditor with a large, local firm for three years.  I was able to see up close how businesses from sole proprietorships to large holding companies operated.  From this experience, I felt called to leave public accounting and to work in private business.

     My initial experience in private business was at a large, local independent K-12 school as Business Manager (CFO).  I oversaw human resources, accounting, budgeting, plant, policies and procedures, business insurance, and annual audits and worked directly with the School Board.  I also was an assistant coach in the Junior High and High School football programs.  Then I worked as CFO at a local technology company which began with eight employees and grew to over 50 employees in multiple states.  In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, I oversaw operations, the construction of a new office building, bank financing, and various state and Federal audits.  From there I became Vice-President in a local family wealth office overseeing more than a dozen closely-held businesses which ranged from commercial office space, aircraft operations, and personal family member to various types of investment entities.  I also oversaw the consolidated business insurance for all related entities and annually prepared over 20 tax returns for Individual, S Corp, and Partnership entities.

The reason I started Lurate CPA Firm is because I have spent my entire professional career in and around small  and closely held businesses in the Jackson area.  It is what I have done, it is what I know, and it is what I am good at.  I have seen the need for small businesses to have a single-source solution for their accounting and business needs provided by someone who cares about the business.  That is what I can provide.
